Gainesville is a city in Ozark County, Missouri, United States. The population was 632 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Ozark County [3].

Gainesville is located at (36.603520, -92.430709)[4]. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.6 square miles (6.7 km2), all land.
As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 632 people, 294 households, and 176 families residing in the city. The population density was 239.3 inhabitants per square mile (92.4/km²). There were 339 housing units at an average density of 128.3 per square mile (49.6/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 98.73% White, 0.16% African American, 0.47% Native American, and 0.63% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.90% of the population.
There were 294 households out of which 25.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.3% were married couples living together, 8.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 40.1% were non-families. 37.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 20.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.15 and the average family size was 2.86.
In the city the population was spread out with 23.3% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 24.7% from 25 to 44, 23.9% from 45 to 64, and 21.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 85.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 77.0 males.
